Hurricane House
The following house was designed as a method for affordable housing in response to the devastated Galveston, TX coast, following Hurricane Ike. This house emphasizes the importance of design, demonstrating that contemporary architecture can be appreciated and attained by everyone. The structure is easily constructed using 8"x8"x16"CMU blocks and 1' thick SIPS panels spanning 14' for the main floor. Waste is minimized by using standard material sizes. Durable long-life materials not only reduce the initial purchase price, but also minimize long-term maintenance and operational costs.
